Prashant Tamang, a constable in the West Bengal Police, was on Sunday crowned Indian Idol after vanquishing his rival Amit Paul in a grand finale of the over-two month long talent hunt.
Tamang, 24, who hails from Darjeeling, has undergone a journey from being a member in the police band in Kolkata to becoming the heart throb of millions of TV viewers all over the country.
The grand finale was an all North-East affair as Tamang took on 24-year-old Paul, who hails from Shillong.
The results of the talent hunt were announced at a gala in New Delhi with the final witnessing a whopping seven crore people sending in their votes.
Tamang stole the centrestage with his rendition of the song Yeh Kali Kali Ankhen from the Hindi film Baazigar .
As Bollywood actor John Abraham announced Tamang the winner, the constable thanked his mother in a voice choked with emotion.
“I thank my mother, public and Bengal police for granting me the permission for participating in the show,” he said.

I think Amit Paul deserves to be crowned “Indian Idol 3″. Prashant was a good singer, but not nearly as great as Amit Paul. He couldn’t pull of versatality or looks =).

It is popularity contest decided by fan support.
prashant tamang will still be there singing in years to come not end up in oblivion so will amit paul. prashant never was in the bottom 3 he was winning the compettition anyway. hope they the final up here soon. bye

When PARLEEN,CHARU N DEEPALI can b voted out n kicked out of the show then i dosent matters that amit has LOST indian idol 3.coz i think PARLEEN ,CHARU N DEEPALI were very gud singers then amit paul.so i dosent matters who wins coz both of do not deserve the crown of indian idol.parshnt coz he sings horrible n amit coz he sings songs of one type his songs are always slow n romantic.he cant sing fast songs.n the reaction of judges on amits songBHULLA KI JANA MEIN KAUN was overacting.

hey in true sense prashant is the winner . he deserves it and he win so.although amit was also good .but ultimately its the winner who wins and prasanth was the winner .
